Beeds Lake Restoration Project
Beeds Lake Restoration Project The goals of the Friends of Beeds Lake Restoration Project are to remove the sediments, nutrients and e-coli bacteria to a level that permits the removal of Beeds Lake from the EPA and State of Iowa Impaired Waters List. In addition we will promote the dredging of the lake, the silt pond and the replacement of the silt dam with a structure capable of retaining sediments and contaminants in the silt pond. Also, we will study and promote programs and methods to clean the waters of the Spring Creek and Beeds Lake Watershed. To accomplish these goals we are partnering with the Iowa DNR, the Franklin County SWCD, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, the Iowa Dept of Agriculture Land Stewardship, local businesses and civic groups.
We have a number of fund raisers scheduled for 2012 including our annual breakfast to be held at the Beeds Lake Lodge on July 1st and a 5K run/walk, 10K and half marathon at the lake August 25th. We will host a Spring Clean Up May 5th so stay tuned for details.
The Friends of Beeds Lake normally meet the first Monday of each month in the basement of the First National Bank of Hampton. If you are a person who hikes, bikes, swims, camps, fishes, picnics or otherwise recreates at Beeds Lake we would appreciate your support. The Friends of Beeds Lake are a 501 (c) 3 organization so contributions, also appreciated, are tax deductible and receipts will be given on request. Contributions may be sent to: Friends of Beeds Lake, %Jim Davies, POB 595, Hampton, Ia. 50441.
